Merc 260 and 888 outdrive

I'm going to be removing the lower unit on my 1975 Sea Ray 190 for the winter so I can replace the impeller and such. However I am not sure where to start.

I was wondering if anyone has a manual for it. The boat was repowered at some point so it used to have a Ford 302 in it and the outdrive model is 888. Also I have no choice but to store the boat outside so do I have to cover up the drive since the lower unit will be removed? Or will it be just fine as is?

Manuals are easy, you need #4 for your outdrive. Without knowing the year of the 260 (Chevy engine) it's impossible to say what engine manual.

Yes, you should at least cover the opening where the drive was so water doesn't get in the gimbal bearing. Ziggy just did a post on this.
