My 2000, Merc 200 carb, stalls after about an hour of slow trolling. If i put it in neutral it is usually ok, but put it in gear at about 1200-1500 RPM's and she wants to conk out. It doesnt always do this, but always at the worst times. Usually if i get it up on plane and run it WOT for a minute, it will slow troll fine for a while. Does this sound like a fuel problem or maybe a carbon build up? I have stated on this board before, that when i first get in the boat and try to prime the bulb, it wont get hard. It has trouble starting or staying started unless i rev it in neutral for a few seconds. Doesnt that sound like the fuel is being restricted somehow? I know nothing about engines. Thanks.

If the primer won't firm-up, it's iether the primer bulb itself, a hole in the fuel line, fuel pump,or something amiss in the carb.<br />I would replace the fuel line (cheap enough to do,and you can do this) before taking it to a shop....Unless you want to tear-into it yourself. If so, get the shop manual, and let the guys here walk u thru it.

Re: Merc 200 stals atvery low idle....

No offense to all you boat mechanics out there, but i have all but given up on the ones around here. They fix stuff for me, it breaks a few weeks later, i re-fix it better, and it lasts forever. I dont have any boat knowlege, but i have pride and common sense, something no one has around here. I will replace the fuel line then go from there. The motor just really feels and sounds like it is starving for fuel. After it stalled a few times out there, we fired it back up to leave. It idled well and when put in gear and floored to get up on plane, it kinda hesitated and bogged for a few seconds then kicked in getting up on plane. ????? It has a new powerhead that has less than 100 hours on it, and has been maintained perfectly. It ran like a top for the first 10 times out in it. It is really frustrating because if you take your boat in to the shop they will have it for a month, and more than likely wont fix it. HELP!!!
