Merc 165 help

So I got a merc 165. Its a1977. Rebuilding from a fire. Got good deal. There is a hose off the back of the head. looks to be1/4 inch or something. Anyone have any clue where that hose is supposed to hook up to?

Any help is greatly appreciated. The manual is vague as....

Hello and :welcome: to iboats...

Sounds like it might be a mod, never seen a hose from the back of the head on an engine that came out of the factory... You may have to track it down yourself, or post photos. When you say out of the back of the head, is it in the core plug, and hence the water jacket , or the valve cover? Or somewhere different?

6 cyl or 4 cyl? Post a few more times, then post pic of the hose

What manual are you using?
If it's a Clymer or Seloc then ya, you're right.
Need an official Mercruiser manual.

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I am gonna find out. I gotta pull the head. I have 2 bent valvles. Something i inherited. Hopefully the valve didn't shatter and screw up.the cylinder walls. I will let y'all know what I find. Thanks again
