Merc 150 Saltwater -Beeping Problem

We have a problem with a 'beep beep beep' warning on from our Mercury 150 Saltwater ouboard - we have had a constant problem over the past few weekends and each Monday we take the boat in and our Mercury 'mechanic' continuously tells us there is nothing wrong with the motor...Last weekend the 'beep beep beep' progressed to a continuous beep which resulted in motor power being shut-down. This week I have had a call from the mechanic and this time he thinks he motor oil tank may have a faulty valve so he has ordered a new one. When we looked at the motor on the weeknd I know the tank was absolutely full and I am really starting to get frustrated with this as we only bought the boat in October last year. I personally think that the problem is with the oil tank level sensor because I know the tank was definately full each time the warning has gone off...Help!

you have 2 issues
the beep beep is the alarm module either failing or detecting a problem with the oil system.
it must have a good ground,inputs from the switchbox. a bad stator,coil or switchbox can set an oil alarm.
it must have an input from the rotational sensor if not and its getting a signal from the switch box the alarm sounds.
finally the switch on the engine tank must be open. if the tank is low or the switch is bad it will beep ya.
steady tone is either overheat or a failed module.
the switchbox input and the rotational sensor can be tested with a voltmeter, a stevens CD-77 analog or its merc equivalent is the best to use as one voltage will be less than 5 volts and the other will be above 150 volts.
the level switch can be tested with an ohmeter.
I would reccomend running a 50/1 premix while testing as the nylon oil pump drive gear is known to be failure prone on low hour engines.

We are going in to pick the boat up again this afternoon so I will ask the mechanic about running some of the tests you propose...fingers crossed we will be skiing again soon!
