merc 140 lower end

was wondering if there were any tricks on taking out the bearing carrier housing. its kinda tight inside the drive housing. would heat help it or should i just torque it out with the puller? i had to crack the ring screw to get that off its a 72 140 inline 6 merc

Heating around the gearcase where the carrier sits will definitely help. Make sure you drain the gear oil first.

If you can rig up a slide hammer to pull on the propshaft, that'll help too.

yeah its drained. im gonna let the pen oil soak tonight and start pounding on it tomorrow..... before i get a bigger hammer!!
