I am running a 93' 115 Merc on a 16.5' boat. It does not have a jack plate and I have a 24 pitch merc. quicksilver 3 blade SS prop. When I hammer it out of the hole the prop slips "blows out" after about 3-4 seconds just as the nose of the boat starts to drop. I have to ease off the gas and then all is fine. Also I am turing right at 5900-6000 rpm at wot. I would like to lower this by 4-500. I think that a 24" prop is about right for that hp or motor, should I consider lowering the motor on the boat? Any help is appreciated.
Chief

Hey, chieff. Sounds like your motor is too high, but it may simply be that 24" doesn't work at minimum planing speed. If you are getting near 6000 rpm you certainly don't want to go to a lower pitch prop. I don't know if going to a 4 blade would help you or not. You may simply need to get on plane at less than w.o.t., then open her up. Sort of like minimizing wheel spin in a Cobra 427.

Good luck.
JB

Ya chief, get your rpms down....these motors dont like it over 5500.....with a heavy [stainless] prop an aloota rpm these motors will eat rod bearings $$$$$
see if you can get your hands on a 26 laser II an try it.

ODDD1 is right. this motor I believe is rated at 5250 rpm. 6000 rpm is way over the mark Beware!
Best of Luck,
Little Bear
