I am looking at a used boat with a 93' 115 Mercury. I have owned several Johnson/Evin. outboards with great success but have never owned a Merc. I was talking with a guy who said that the Merc only used the bottom two carbs. at low rpm and that it affected the hole shot of those motors. Does anyone know if this is correct and how does the hole shot of this motor compare to a 115 Johnson.
Thanks for the info!
Chief

Re: Merc 115

yes cheiff mercs 4 cyl motors had a 2+2 system......engine ran on top 2 cyl under 1800 rpm...trolled well an they still had a good hole shot......only trouble they had was early ones had very lean oil pumps....93 should be late enuf to miss them......
