got a 2001 merc 115, cranked without trouble and ran like a champ for about 10-15min, then killed it and fished for about 30min, then i could'nt restart it. the motor turned and turned until it seemed like i drained my battery. this has happened to me in the past, but i thought it was just poor battery, but the one today had a pretty decent charge to it. i know it could probably be a million different things wrong, but any thing obvious that jumps out to any "old salts" out there....

Re: merc 115 problems

Is this your 1st boat?

Is this your 1st 2-stroke motor?

Aluminum motors cool much quicker than we are used to our cars.

They also like more fuel, often needing just a 'bump' on the choke.

BUT.....because the 2-strokes are jetted so rich they are very easily flooded.

Re: merc 115 problems

yep, 1st boat with a motor of any rate. bought it from a boat yard that was going out of buisness. walked in one day asked bout the boat, laid down the cash and i was trailering a boat within a hr. been trying to figure out alot of issues with the boat on my own, just found this site a few days ago and thought i'd give it a shot. tried choking the engine, and primming the bulb several time but no good. it just reminded me of how a car will do when you try to crank it with a simi poor battery, you know sort of sounds weak and weaker with each starting try. but my voltage meter was well above 12volt range when i put it into the water.
