Merc 110 9.8 Leaky Lower Unit

I have a Mercury 110 9.8 (I believe it is about 1971). The gear lube leaks out over time and the lower unit fills with water. I don't want to put a lot of money into this old motor. Is there any stop-leak additive that would work?

Short of fixing the bad seal or crack all you can do is replace the oil frequently like after every fishing trip. That might get you by. Problem with that is that if the bearings get toasted then you have a more expensive repair on your hands.

Theres a used one on ebay right now,no bids that would bolt right on to your motor.Ends wed morning early!
