I recently traded an old four wheeler for this boat engine. today I put it on my jon boat and put the motor in a garbage can full of water to run it. the pervious owner said it sat for a period of 4 years with out being ran. last time he said it was ran was in fresh water. it cranked up on 2 pulls and ran for about 45 seconds. while letting in run at about 1/4 throttle I noticed it quit "pissing" and and pulled it back down to idle and finally shut if off when I noticed small traces of smoke comming out. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and started it agian once agian it "pissed" like it should have then it quit just like the first time. I tryed to stick some wire into the flush hole and got it about 2 inches in and cant get it in anymore alot of sand looking stuff came out. the weep hole was clear with no obstructions all the way to the powerhead. do you think the impeller is bad or is there some kind of blockage in there? I've never worked on outboard motors before. I dont have any time to do it myself due to an upcomming deployment to iraq. in a rough estimate what does a boat shop usaully charge for this?
