Originally posted by theriver:
Roy Orbison came to mind immediately.
What a great guy. I cried when he died. Same goes with Johnny Cash. Bear in mind I was born in 1970, these legend are way before my time.
You got good taste theriver :D ...............sometimes. :p

Memorable? Hmmmm? In the spirit of allthumbs, hows about Tiny Tim? :p

Seriously, there have been so many, many of which have been mentioned already. A couple that always sent shivers down my spine were Laura Brannigan and Dolly Parton.

Re: Memorable Singing Voices

The night they drove ol Dixie Down is not too shabby by Levon Helm and the Band either

And I do indeed have a copy of "The Last Waltz" in my VCR library, but it is "Music from Big Pink" that happens to be in my CD player in the car as I type.

My daughter gets exasperated with me, but I don't recognize much as music recorded after she was born, 25 years ago.

And one of my favorite all-time CD's is Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville "Cry like a Rainstorm/Howl like the wind"

There are, however, lot's more I left out:

James Taylor comes immediately to mind

Maria Callas
Kate Bush
Mario Lanza

that's the three I could easily identify that I don't think have been mentioned yet.

But hey, I reckon Johnny Cash has to be up close to the top of most memorable and now to make myself really unpopular I'll say that I reckon that I haven't ever heard or seen anything so memorable as his rendition/video of "Hurt" just before he passed away: truly incredible and unforgetable.
