The day before Thanksgiving Day we had to put Desi, our 13 year old lab mix down. It was very sad for both of us. He's been a precious part of the family all these years. The house was so empty without him, as were our hearts.

We knew given time, we would have another dog and had decided that another lab was what we wanted since we loved their personalities.

On Thanksgiving our daughter who was spending the holiday with her inlaws called to tell us that her BIL had a 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab they had chained up in the garage because their baby was crawling around now and the dog was just too big to bring in the house. When I heard that, I didn't care what he looked like, I told her we would take him.

We picked up Samson (Sam) Saturday night around 6 p.m. He's beautiful inside and out. He has papers, been neutered and is a very healthy and sweet dog. He immediately bonded with both of us.

We took him yesterday to our friends who have 2 hunting dogs, one Springer and a black labs and our friend told us to let Sam inside the gate and let them play. Not knowing how Sam would react to other dogs I was a bit nervous. We let them all together, they all sniffed butts and the next thing you know they were running around in a pack all playing together.

I feel like we hit the doggy lotto. Sam is the best behaved dog I've ever seen. Nothing riles him, not even cats. We've yet to hear him bark. He just wants to play and love. He dosent chew, dig, jump, bark, and he gets along with other animals, loves to ride in the car, dosen't mess in the house. We are really fortunate to have him.

He already has a spot on the floor at the foot of our bed where he sleeps at night. I think he is just grateful to be free and getting so much attention.
