McCulluch 4hp points gap

Hi,
I have been given a McCulluch 4hp engine and would like to restore it as the compression is excellent and just needs a bit of TLC.
The problem is that it is a non starter, no spark.
After a strip down I noticed that the contact points are barely open, my questions are:-
What is the recommended gap size for the points?.
What is the recommended Plug gap?
and
What is the recommended mixture for Fuel/Oil?

Any other help would be appriciated.

Nice little motor produced from '77-'82. Couldn't pin it down from the #s you provided. Model # 1st two digits should be 42 or 47.

The Champion L86 plug should be gapped at .030".

<What is the recommended mixture for Fuel/Oil?>

The crank & lower rod bearing are ball/roller/needle which would be OK at the factory recommended 50/1 fuel/oil ratio but the rod bearing for the piston pin appears to be a plain sleeve bearing. So I would err on the side of keeping it alive with no lower than 32/1. It MIGHT last forever at 50/1 but I KNOW that oil is cheaper and easier to find than obsolete parts!

Thanks Tom,
Much appreciated information and will spend a few nights hopefully getting her going, I will air on the higher oil mixture 33:1 which I use on my Vire 7 inboard.

I thinking about changing the impeller but have no details on the break down to get at it and if there is an equivalent for it

I did manage to work out how to get at the points with the hidden screws under the rubber trim..but quite challenging with no manual.

You must resolve this issue before proceeding! The impeller is the functional equivalent of the heart in the human body. If either quits pumping the host dies.

Nice little motor. I received one for a Christmas present when I was a kid in the late '60s. Sears sold them for awhile, if I recall. Later McCulloch sold the outboard line to Aero Marine so these were rebranded with a black paint job and Aero Marine decals.

I believe the fuel/oil ratio is 40:1. I still have a partial bottle of the McCulloch 40:1 oil on my shelf.

I just starting looking online here to see what I need to do to get a Sears (MCCullock) 4hp outboard engine running and thought I'd give you the info straight from the tag on the engine I have Serial #81725-11-1232, Model #C574-60018 Simpson-Sears Ltd. Made in

1 Gallon Gas to 1 and 1/2 FL. oz. MCCulloch "100:1" oil or 4 FL.oz SAE 30 outboard motor oil.

I believe I read 1959 to 1969 in a chart through a link here for 4 hp Sears.
