Tried to install my first mc1 outdrive tonight and I finally quit before I broke anything. I had it very close to going but it just wouldn't go. The splines were engaged and im very confident the shifter shaft was also engaged. I made sure everything was in forward and i could kinda feel the shifter shafts were engaged by reaching behind and underneith. I am leaning twords the big rubber seal on the universal joint retainer. The studs were flush with the outrdive so I was close, and I tried several times, but I could not get it to go. Any suggestions? Maybe if I let it sit a while hopefully it will fall together. Thanks

Did you put a lot of grease on the two orings on the splined shaft that goes through the gimbal bearing? If you get a bunch of grease under the orings, they can hydrolock and not let the orings go into the bearing. Wipe all the grease off and put some oil on them, then install the drive. May have to bump the drive (with your foot) to get new seals started.

I did have greaso on the o-rings, that may have been the problem. I guess I didn't know they fit that tight, when I try again I might have to give it a little motivation to go the last little bit. Thanks and I will give it another shot another day.

Re: mc1 outdrive install

Just did my gimbal bearing and had the same problem. Took alot of persuation to get it in and pulling it off again to the recheck the large o-ring. Eventually, it went in. I too had alot of grease on the o-ring and will try oil the next time. If the shift cable is in its place, the splines are lined up and your aligned, the driveshaft o-rings are the only things holding you up. Good luck.
