We are considering buying a 195 IO for a freshwater lake in Ohio. Will the 190 hp standard motor be enough for pulling up water skiiers? Any advice? Have read some not great "quality" comments on the brand in general that are making us a bit nervous. Anyone have this exact model can comment on quality?

Thanks!

I don't know...
But I promise those here with valid opinions will need to know
1: how big is the boat?
2: how much will your average load be?
3: Is skiing going to be the primary use of the vessel?
I have a 22' Searay with a cuddy cabin and a 4.3LX 205 hp(4 barrel). This is a pretty big boat and will pull a skier up. But it is not a "ski" boat.

And welcome to Iboats, you'll love it here, I do!

It is a 20 foot deck boat, seats 8. We really like the deck boat for the versatility - cruising the lake, tubing, skiing, even some fishing. If we have 4 adults and 2-4 kids on the boat, can we get a skiier up with 190 HP?

Thanks!

I had a 170 hp (mercruiser 470) in a 19.5 foot open bow and we could ski behind it but not with 8 people in the boat. We could with 3 adults in boat and 1 skiier all day though. It really depends on boat weight, load, condition of motor (is it tired or fresh) and the water conditions. I don't know where you plan to go but erie is real fun but tuff sometimes to ski.

Give some more info on the boat. Im sure some others will lend a helping hand too. There is a great group of people here.

Just got off the lake w/ my Q5i....190 hp. Had 4 teenage boys, myself, and two 9 yr old boys. There were no issues pulling up skiers.

On Memorial day weekend, however, I had 5 adults (all guys, all over 200 lbs) and had no problems pulling anyone up (both wakeboarding/wakesurfing, and skiing).

I have the a 2007 Q6... 20.5 ft long. I would think its comparable to your choice I carry 5 to 8 adults and pull 1 or 2 skiers or a tube or wake board alot. the 190 hp v6 works fine for me... The secret is the prop pitch. I have a 24 pitch SS 3 blade for cruising - 2 to 4 adults and a 19P 4 blade aluminum for watersports and lots of people in the boat. The difference is 50 mph top speed with a slow climb onto plane with the 24 p and 42-44 mph top speed with a quick jump onto plane with the 19P. Its all about the prop.
