Matching gel coat after repair?

I just repaired a hole in the deck of my Force 5 sailboat. The hole was about 6 inches long by 2 inches wide. I don't mind having the new mat just exposed, but is it possible to put new gelcoat on it and match it as close as possible to existing? What would be the procedure here? Thanks!

Yes you can cover it with gelcoat, first you need to have the area slightly depressed so you don't have a bump in the finsh, next you need gel eith wax included in it or PVA to seal the surface as gel won't dry when exposed to air, and of couse either factory colored gel which won't match perfectly or the ability to mix the color--Bob
