I have a 9.9hp Mariner. I currently run it in a large tank after use in the Sea to clean the salt water off. This is a pain to fill and empty (particularly as the engine has hydrofoil large fins that have to be removed to fit it into the tank) Is it possible to get any kind of an adaptor to connect the engine to a hosepipe and run it with a cold water supply in this way?

Those flushers don't fit on the 9.9 Mariner. The water intake is under the cav plate. Since you have a hydrofoil (something I strongly recommend you remove, and leave off) the flushers for those engines won't go on anyway.

Re: Mariner Wash through

Thanks for the responses guys.
Two questions really, 1/ Is there ANY device that fits the 9.9 Mariner that will let me wash it through with a hosepipe?
2/ What is so wrong with a hydrofoil? Is it just wrong for this engine or is there a bigger issue?

Thanks

In most cases the hydrofoils rob preformace they do help get on plane but thats it. Tempo builds a flush attachment for your engine

Re: Mariner Wash through

Hydrofoils generate lift and that lift is transfered through the engine to the stern of the boat, and therein lies the problem.

The engine swivel bracket and clamp brackets are designed to take load in the down direction, not transfer lift. I have seen terrible damage done to engines because of these things. A lot of broken cav plates and swivel brackets.

Aside from the damage is the issue of stern lift. Yes it will help achieve planing easier, but as boat speed increases the lift generated increases, and can cause a dangerous 'bow steer' condition, leading to broaching.
