Mariner Oil Injection Question

I just purchased a boat with a 1988 Mariner 75hp with oil injection, I am just wondering how reliable the injections systems are on the merc/mariner motors. I have always been a evinrude guy so I am not very trusting of oil injection and have always blocked them off.

Please let me know what you guys think?

They are much more reliable than the Johnson system. I believe most people keep them hooked up

Re: Mariner Oil Injection Question

The only things that kill em are:
Over 6500 RPM all the time
Extreme overheat.

Both get the nylon gear on the crankshaft.

I run one on an XR4 right at the ragged edge on RPM. I mix about an ounce of oil per gallon of gas in the main tank, which takes my mix to about 40:1 WOT and maybe 70:1 at idle. Using synthetic oil, I get a usable idle, (somewhat a miracle on this hot rod anyway) reasonable smoke, and I have plenty for the hard runs. The little extra in the gas would let me get out of it if the alarm went off when running hard.

On a 75, just run it and enjoy it.

hope it helps
John
