Mariner 5HP 5M6E3 steering lock for sailboat

Hello,

I have recently purchased a Mariner 5HP for my Venture 17; Lucille.

I would like to be able to lock the motor in the forward steering position, so that I may steer with the rudder instead of the outboard.

I understand most outboards have a friction adjust, and this is no different. However when its maxed out and tightened right down it makes little difference.

Any suggestions?
