Mariner 40EL year

I have searched the Internet up and down but the only way i have found to find out what year it is seems to be to ask on a forum. It's what I believe is a late 80's Yamaha built mariner. The full data tag numbers are 40EL6E9L420749.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

40C EL 6E9-416473 - 6E9-421567 = late 1985,
Mariner: 40-55Hp

But the model number (7040716) of the engine considers it to be an 1986. Engine Manufacture Date: 12/03/1985.

If you'd like, You could try googling the model number 7040716 for a parts catalog.

Thank you for the reply. Getting the parts was no problem. The main reason I needed the year was for the service manual. This motor was given to me as it needed work. It sat for several years out doors and some mice had used much of the wiring for a nest. Now I am trying to figure out what wires hook where and the service manual has several variations on this. Thank you again.
