Mariner 40 Problem

Hi all!

First post so thanks for any help anyone can give me. I have just returned from my annual holiday where I have been experiencing a problem with my Mariner 3cyl 4 stroke (1999)
It ticks over fine and runs fine when cruising towards the top of the rev range. When accelerating under load however it will get to about half throttle and either stall if I try to accelerate too quickly or suffer from rough running and misfires until I either throttle back or gradualy accelerate to a higher rpm. Checked all the obvious like plugs and fuel supply but no improvement. I realise it could be a number of things but any help anyone can give with the problem or pointing me to a previous thread would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Mariner 40 Problem

Mariner and Merc share the same components. The earlier 4 strokes (mine is an '02 60hp) had a hinky fuel pump whereby the pump shaft would bind at mid throttle after a few years (4 plus) of service' causing rough operation at mid range. Changes were made later ('06 or '07). Pumps should be interchangeable. If this is your trouble, and it might be, see if you can fit a recent model pump.
