If that is a defect why do i have that small hole on the bottom of the antena for that wire to fit through?

I'm with dingbat. That looks like the braided shield that is supposed to be surrounding the center conductor of the coax cable. It even looks like it's coming out of the coax.

There is a hole in the side of the base of the antenna because some mounts do not allow the coax to run through them.
