Any downloadable marine gps or chartplotter type apps available for download to a droid or I phone type device?
I have used these for Android.
Nuticharts Lite - This works in online mode with the Active Captain markers (
www.activecaptain.com). The phone GPS will plot on the chart. The online mode is free. You can download maps from Google Play, but you have to buy them (e.g. Virginia costs $5.99). Don't know how well this works if you don't have a live network connection.
Marine Navigator Lite - You download the NOAA raster charts (free) and use the phone GPS to plot your position on the chart. You can download all the maps you have space for.
I mostly use them for looking at the charts before I set out in areas I haven't been before (I have a Garmin unit on the boat). The Active Captain markers show marinas, ramps, "local knowledge". etc., submitted by users that can be very useful. You can also see this info on the Active Captain website.
