I'm replacing the engine in my 25' ocean boat. I currently have the 5.7 280 hp engine in it now with the VP duo prop DP SA 1.95. Im debating weather to go with the aluminum block 5.3 350 hp engine or the aluminum block 6.2 380 hp. Im conserved the 6,2 will be to much hp for the volvo out drive. What is your opinion?

Don't see the VP drive not able to handle the HP

Also the 6.2 380 is measured at the crankshaft since its sold as a motor only. If it was sold in a boat it would be more like 350HP being measured at the prop

the 6.2 may not have more peak HP, but will probably have more area under the curve and more torque. The DuoProp drive will be fine with either.

Keep in mind, nobody ever says they wish they went with the smaller engine, but just about every wishes they sucked it up and went bigger. Same with boats, "I wish we went 2' bigger..." etc.

volvo drives had big blocks in front of them....... the drive wont care.

you could drop the VP 430 in it and the drive still wouldnt care.

None of those engines will trouble any VP DP drive. But you will need to suffer quite an expensive props change.
