Ok as you all know from my other posts im restoring a 12 1972 Gamefisher.
Question is this.
Im at the point of carpeting and have bought grey Marine Carpet.
I have treated wood platforms and the livewell has a treated wood lid.

When I wrap the carpet around and under, should I use some vinyl fabric or something too finish off the underneath?
I plan on using carpet glue and then using staples too connect the edges underneath but not sure if I should just leave the treated wood exposed underneath or not.
Suggestions please.
I dont like shotty (is that a real word) LOL work and like my stuff too look good and final.

Thanks
Wally

Re: Marine Carpet Situation

I would seal the wood with resin and csm if you have the supplies. If not a good waterproofing stain would work. Then if it were me doing the job i would wrap the carpet under and secure it with finishing strips of flat aluminum from the hardware store as a trim border. Use small finishing screws but first install plastic mollies into the hatch wood with 5200 on them to recieve the screws so your not screing directly into the wood allowing rot in later or risking the possible tearing out of the screw from the wood. You can use staples to help secure the carpet to place the aluminum strips also. Make sure you get them in all the way and flush and leave them in under the stripping to help with holding the carpet tight.

This is how im going to be doing mine and it has done well for me before on other projects.

Good luck!

Re: Marine Carpet Situation

My Crestliner had a white cloth covering the inside of the hatches, the cloth looked 1/2 way between cheese cloth and burlap, breathable and tough but looked good. When I re-decked the boat, I painted the inside of the hatches with 2-3 coats of white rustoleum, then covered them with vinyl (or carpet in your case).
