Hi everyone....I have a 1980 mercury ob 85 hp with manual trim which use to lift with ease........but now it's very hard to lift and lower. I've greased the pin and even tried heating the bracket with a blow torch to free up any solid grease that may have been causing the stiffness which did not help any.
Does anyone know what I can do to get this problem solved and save my back from aching from trying to raise and lower the motor?

Remove the bracket assembly and disassemble. clean, re-grease and reassemble.

How do I remove the brackets? Will the motor have to be taken off the transom or can it be done without removing the motor? Is there a diagram that show how to do that or video?
I'm just trying to get all information before attempting it and needing more answers while in progress. Thanks for all your help!!

Here is a manual that should cover the disassembly for you. It starts in section 9. I would remove the engine from the transom first. Lay the engine on it's back (bracket facing up) and then remove the bracket from the engine.

Boatinfo - 1965-1989 Mercury Service manual for 40-115 hp

Save the above manual address. It covers most things you need to do and how to do it.
