manifolds and risers

i have a 87 wellcraft , 305 merc, i have had the boat 3 years runs great , how do i know when the risers and manifolds need replacing , i get different anwsers from everyone i talk to

Howdy,

It depends on a few things.

1. Fresh or salt water?

2. When were they changed before?

3. Have you EVER seen inside the riser/manifold water jackets? (I.E. have you removed the risers to inspect the condition of the sealing surfaces AND replaced the riser gaskets?)

You don't of course wait until they fail..... That could cost you a new engine.

Best bet is to have them removed and inspected....at least that's what my mechanic said :)
