Earlier this year I replaced the complete manifold/elbows on my 1997 5.7L Mercruiser. Starboard elbow has developed a small crank like a freeze crack on the top. Parts store will warranty it but I have to send it back. Problem is it is winterized. If I drain the manifold, will that effect proper winterization, or if I would pull off the elbow without draining, is the antifreeze level that high that if I remove the elbow, will antifreeze leak down into the cylinders?

Re: Manifold Elbow Removal

If you Drain the Manifold,..... It'll Still be Winterized,....
It's Just That manifold will be Dry,........ No Problem......

If you Pull the Riser Without draining the Manifold,......
Ayuh,.... You stand a Good Chance that you'll be dumping Antifreeze Into the Motor........

That's the way I see it also. Drain it, you'll be OK.
