2002 3.0L There is a handle and sign that indicates manifold and block drain. You pull it and there is a slider that just runs up the two lines with no effect. I pushed it down as far as it goes and they dont reach far enough hook to anything. How does it work?

To be quite honest, those hoses need to be removed and thrown in the trash. Then get a couple of brass pipe plugs to put into the holes in the block and manifold.
The holes in the block and manifold tend to fill up with sand, mud, rust, etc and plug up the hoses. Then just a little bit comes out of the hoses, but water is still in the block and manifold, then when it freezes, you get to go looking for a new block and manifold.
With the plugs, just remove the plug and use a wire to clean the holes out so the water drains, and put them back in. Job done, and no worry.

Sound advice from Don I am sure. I did find out how it works. All along I thought the hoses disconnected from the bottom. In reality they have easy disconnects up top right by the handle. The fancy slider thing is an easy way to just pull the hoses back up after you disconnect the top and let them drop to the bottom of bilge to drain. I feel like an idiot. Funny how you can look at something three or four times, not figure it out. Get a good nites sleep and look at it again and figure it out instantly. Mine flowed very freely after I disconnected them and and dropped them down low. No time at all to drain em. Ask me again in a few years and I betcha Don's wisdom will come to light. Only there is no way I have access down in that hole to put in plugs :(
