You did real good helping out and being a solid part of his rescue.
Congratulations on taking actions where others might have just gasped for air.
You are to be commended.

Seeing and being involved with a situation like this stays with you for the rest of your life.

The next couple of days may be rough for you. You may not say it but you will be reliving the trauma, and trying to process what you have been through.

Your story touched a couple of nerves in this bald head and brought me back to some rescues I was part of 15 years back. It stays with you. Knowing your part was on the positive end helps. But it is a long memory.

ya if i didnt have a paddle kyak thing i dont know how they would have gotten him up there cause his arm was pretty bruised too. so dragging him might be a bit bad.

Good job on the rescue/help. Reminds me that we need to constantly be aware of our surroundings so we don't become the victim of someone else's drunken or otherwise stupidity.

This brings another point. Make sure you have a kill switch and use it! That thing don't work if the lanyard is not attached to you. Also, everyone that boats with me regularly knows where everything is and how to operate the boat. I also tell my guest a bit about the boat safety and operation specially if it is just that person and me.

Re: man got run over

acually both is of them were not wearing one and and when i tilted the motor up to bring it back to the house there was a lanyard on the key but i dont know whether they were wearing it.

again i looked and saw that the guy was in the water. i wasnt sure who was driving. but it may have been the lady. and the motor was tiled quite high in the water. put throttle on and the boat when real high and turned and he fell over. or he was driving wasnt wearing the kill lanyard fell over and going in circles and it may have taken the lady a bit to get to the steering wheel.

again im unsure if alchohol played a role in the incident but its quite possible. i cant remember whether they can a drink when they came out. or before

The reason I believe he was driving is because otherwise she would had been in control and surely be able and know how to kill the motor.
I guess we will need to read in the news what happened, or at least their version.

Overpowered
No PFD
Lanyard not used
Inexperience
Alcohol

Recipe for death. This man is luckier than he deserves.

Don't let the flashbacks get to you. You can't fix stupid, all you can do is pick up the pieces and ship them off to the hospital. You done good.

Re: man got run over

it was really scary at first. cause i thought the guy lost a body part. when he came out of the water he was gasping. but i saw an object in the water. it was only the little dog that fell out.

but again if that motor was tilted pretty high he might have gotten cut by the prop
