Combofix is one of many available tools
mainly designed to detect and remove the different types of Vundo infections.
Those infections have a bad habit of 'disabling' other 'anti' programs.
If any of your normal scanners starts acting bad or not reacting, yes, run Combofix.
If starting to get problems with infections always boot in safe mode and start the scan from there.

Hey Boomer, Did you get rid of the bug?

Only on the wifes laptop.

I didn't have any time yesterday to follow the additional steps perscribed by the Bleeping Computer people for my PC

Everyone is talking about running combofix. I think I have it on the affected computer but I thought that thing was like playing with fire if you don't know what you are doing?

btw, I did run HitMan to no avail.

How about your issue? Did you have a chance to follow the perscription I posted?

I have tried to run McAfee, Malwarebytes, combofix and AVG, this bug won't even allow me to boot up in safe mode anymore, it seems to get worst every attempt. I am traveling through Alabama at the moment, i am making do with the smart phone until i get back to south Florida in a couple of weeks. This really sucks, but i am not going sweat about it.

Well do keep track of my link and follow the perscription to the letter, when you get back. I ran all those things you mention on my wife's computer and they did no good.

When I followed the bleeping computer perscription, it finally nailed it. The problem on my PC is just deeper rooted than on hers. Hopefully yours will be like her laptop.

If possible install Revo uninstaller.
Then un-install all your security applications, use the most advanced with scanning and removing after un-install.
Quite often the infections hides in the 'anti' programs and makes them useless.
Try to get a portable scanner that may run from a memory stick.
If you have a second computer, use that for download.
Run, if possible' a Hijack This.
Use your other computer and google all entries.
