Re: Make it stop, make it stop

I went to my Moms last night to put her furniture on milk crates and turn her power off then took her to my sisters..

The Blue River which is normally about 50 feet from her back steps is now at the third step and about 18 inches from being in her house.

It finally crested at 19.4 feet at 1245 this afternoon and is finally going down again, but for how long?:(
In SW IN and SE S.IL the Wabash and Little Wabash rivers that flow into the Ohio are causing big problems.

Where I live, 50 miles away in SW S.IL, the Big Muddy river which flows into the Mississippi is as high as anyone has ever seen it. US Hwy 51 the old route from Chicago to New Orleans before the interstate highways is down to one lane. Not to mention hundreds and hundreds who had to evacuate.

I'm starting to think it's God's way of looking out for me. Think of all the fuel I'll save when I can launch my boat in the backyard instead of towing it to a lake!

Your getting "some" of the rain that passed through here I bet. I think most of it went south of you though. Did you measure? 19" here in the past 9 1/2 days.
...

This is turning into a flood of epic proportions. :(
Good luck to everyone whose home is underwater. Or about to be.

Nope, didn't measure it ... and yes, I believe you are getting a lot more than we have, but we have also had the wetest April on record for our area, I believe, and May has started out the same as April. The 7 day forecasts show 6 days of rain and one of sun.

In spite of all the rain and flooding we have received, and even a tornado touchdown 30 miles from us (very rare in hilly central PA), I am grateful we have not had the flooding and devastation that others have experienced. I feel your pain and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

(It is kind of like the definitions of major and minor surgery ... major surgery is any surgery you are scheduled to have. Minor surgery is any surgery someone else is scheduled to have. That said, our weather is "major" to use, but in contrast to many parts of the country, our troubles are only minor ... hard to mow the grass, had to move tractors, mowers, and supplies from flooded area to avoid damage, many rescue calls and downed trees, but nothing near like others have had to deal with.)

Wow, you are in the middle of a lot of water there, you're nestled between the Wabash, the Mississippi, and the Ohio:eek: I would be looking for higher ground:(, or get that spring maintenance done in a hurry and tie off to the top of the house:(, Hope it settles down for ya there

The Wabash drainage basin covers most of Indiana which like every where else has been getting a good bit of rain.

I went back and took a few pics of Moms
wow.jpgtreeline.jpgriver at moms.jpg

Normally the river is behind the tree line in the second pic.

Post me some pics if you could Deckswabber I just finished some classes at school that were related to this subject and might be doing my senior thesis on this subject.

Since I live a hour from the Wabash area, almost a hour from the Ohio and 45 min. from the Mississippi I really don't have any photos to post. Here are some links.
www.thesouthern.com (local paper, some photos, mostly video)
www.disclosurenewsonline.com (photos of the Wabash area)
www.chicagotribune.com (a lot of good photos of Cairo and Olive Branch, IL.)

If you pm me your mailing address I can send you a weeks worth of our local paper which has some good photos.
