Took the boat out yesterday was doing ok. I was getting 4600rpm running down the lake then the engine started to sputter. It picked back up for a few minutes then died all the way down to 2500rpm. Stayed like that all the way back to the dock. The motor is a 125 force on a 19ft bowrider. I just put new plugs in it last week. I was thinking of starting at the plug wires to see if im getting sparks at all the cylinders then trying some seafoam to decarb the engine. Any other ideas?

Check to make sure it is getting enough gas. Check carb, fuel pump, maybe pump primer bulb while bogging. Decarbing is an excellent thing to do. Check spark and compression if you have a tester. I do not think 4600 rpm is not enough. I would rather be around 5000 but one of the experts will have to give you the specs.

Well got out and started the boat today. No spark to #1 cylinder. Im not getting a good connection between the spark plug and the wire. Gonna play with it tomorrow. Does anyone know if I can just change the boot and terminal? I would like to start there before I buy a new coil. I plan on a good decarb with seafoam and deep creep but I need to know its running on all 4 cylinders first.

Re: major motor bog

I have the same issue with my 90hp. The boat will run great for a while and then it will bog down to about 2250 RPM. Last weekend it bogged down after about 45 minutes of cruising and we where a pretty good way from the marina. After running at 2250rpm for about thirty minutes the boat picked back up and took off to full 5000 RPM. I have replaced the plugs and ignition box so far and I have a fuel pump kit and all new coils on their way. I will let you know if this fixes the problem if not the only thing I can think of left would be either a new stator or a full carb rebuild which both are pretty expensive.

Here's what I found today. No 1 cyl. no spark. No 2 cyl. weak spark. No 3 cyl good spark. No 4 cyl no spark. So... I found a complete ignition system on ebay gonna try to get that and see what happens. Ill let you know how I make out.

Has anyone else had to do this swap? Im sure I can do it but was just wondering if there were any tips to maybe save me some time. Also do I need a special tool to remove the flywheel or will any puller work as long as I dont pull from the edges?
