Good day. I have a ford 302 with flat tappet. It was said to not prolong idle from the builder. I was out fishing in the ocean and the tide was ripping and it was windy and my kicker could barely keep up. Any thoughts about using the main as do or donts

Well what I'd like not to do is wreck a new engine
Oh, well it's a ford flat tappet. Feel free to run it at idle to wot. Again, as long as you have broken it in you'll be fine.

But don't run it at idle to wot. Cuz it's an engine and will fail if you use it?

Ford’s ZDDP/phosphorus threshold is more in line with what is widely recommended for flat-tappet ,,,,,,,,, engine oil additive ..

Yes it's flat tappet
Oof, flat tappet ford?

Best bet to keep it good is to never run it. The best thing for you is to never use your boat

Don't sell it, just keep it under wraps next to your garage

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but hopefully someone will come by with a good answer.
I'm not sure why your engine builder would say not to let it idle.

What he said was for long periods of time...such as trolling...I don't understand why either as I have great oil pressure

Your ford is never meant to be used, listen to your engine rebuilder. They know so much. People who own boats only use them, be one who listens and never open up your boat and enjoy it.

ZDDP/phosphorus oil additive in your boat motor oil ...
in todays world oil is dropping the zinc in the oil ....
tappet valves are worn with the new oil ...
https://lucasoil.com/products/engine-builder-lubricants/engine-break-in-oil-additive-tb-zinc-plus ...
I put 5 oz of TB-PLUS ... THE ZINC IS AROUND 1500 PPM IN THE OIL ..engine runs quiet.
look up the flat tappet engine .. see if its the ZINC additive oil ...
.engine wear is the older engines with new oil in todays world..

Kind of an arrogant response unless he is someone you know and just teasing. If I were a new visitor, I would not be impressed with your responses...
