Just purchased a 1994 johnson 225.... after I got it home and hung it, upon further inspevtion found the magnets on the flywheel had come loose. I had this happen on my older crossflow and just epoxied hem back in place. Is there any specifics besides prep and re-installing ???

just make sure all the notchs are facing the same direction. surface prep is the key. epoxy is like silicone. more aint better.

hello
the replacement mag kits come with a packet of epoxy. if all your doing is cleaning and reglueing jb weld will work. carefully sand all the surfaces and clean with acetone or equivalent.

One of magnets has a chunk missing, I assume as long as it isnt broken in half it can still be used ??

Describe "chunk". A chunk of a diamond is probably smaller than a chunk of rock.

Serously, it depends. Its certianly better to have the complete magnet and they're not that expensive. If it were mine I think I'd get a repalcement.

That being said, we've seen some with small pieces missing and the motor seems to run fine.

Your probably right, I have wo flywheels off an 89 v6 crossflow I can probably rob an magnet off of. I would say the chuck about an inch long off what would be the top of the magnet.

Most likely it'd be OK but if you have others, then I'd suggest doing it only once.

35 amp flywheel magnets are one of a kind. Get the factory kit. Bead blast the inner ring where the magnet sits or the rust will pop off your new one after a season or two.
