Re: Help with Identification

Post some numbers off the motor...looks like an old Clinton or Eska...definitely air-cooled...they make great trotline anchors.

Re: Help with Identification

Thanks for all the help - It seems like it is now identified.

I can't find much info on the net about this little outboard though!!

There is no spark being generated so thit is the first thing to overcome.

I am guessing that the coil is faulty.

If any one has any knowledge or can offer any help that would be great.

I intend to get the motor running and do a full restoration on this outboard.

As there is little info around i can only guess that they are pretty rare nowerdays.

Keep any help coming as this is my first outboard and i cant wait to get going

Looks like a Tecumseh powerhead. My Sears 3 hp outboard has a numbered tag here (See large photo):

It asppears the Clinton and Eska use ther same leg and carry handle. The clinton seems to have two bolts attaching the carry handle the Eska 3.
The clinton has a flattened recoil housing.Yours seems to stand taller.
Eska uses a Tecumseh power head that has a Tecumseh carb. Most Clintons use Tillotson MT carb with the float on edge at the side of the carb other carbs have typical float bowl under the carb.Tecumseh carb may be diaphram or float with the float under the carb.

Well - I got the electrics checked out and the condenser was the issue.

New condencer and hey presto it's a runner.

It is a bit rough at the moment but with a little fine tuning i hope to get it singing like a bird.

Fingers crossed.

A quick video of it running!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57SqqyopjbY

I could really dowith some help with reg's to timing this engine.

I have no details of the correct possitions and i think i am lucky to get it running.

The ignition advances and retards with the throttel.

If any one can explain how to set up the timing i would be over the moon as i don't want to do any harm to the engine as it is now running.

There must be a proceedure but i can't find it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try the library for an aftermarket manual.
Personally I would leave well enough alone.
If the timing was off it sure wouldn't be purring along so well.
These rascals are really finicky.Responding differently almost everytime you try to run them.If you have a good runner treat it kindly and enjoy it.
