I have a Lowrance X-510C sonar that has worked great for 3 years or so and this past Monday started getting squirrelly. At speed, trolling and/or drifting the unit will be working fine and suddenly lose the bottom and start flashing 1.4 ft then 1.6 ft and then 1.4 ft, etc, etc. And then just as suddenly find the bottom again and work fine. All this occuring over relatively flat bottom - no big rises or drop-offs.

Also, when it's lost the bottom it flashes the depth every 1 second or so - normal operation - but every now and the the depth reading will flicker really fast 3 or 4 time. The rest of the screen and the temp reading DO NOT flicker.
All connections checked and tight. Xducer (transon mount skimmer) placement checked endless times and no problem there. Battery voltage fine. Problem occurs with or without anything else on the boat operating (no interference).

Sooo, anybody have any idea if the problem is in the Xducer, the sonar unit or what??? Or, how I can figure it out.

Thx, Bob

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

When my sonar exhibited this behavior, it turned out be a cut in the transducer wire.

Thx NYBo. Kinda figured it was a xducer issue and was planning to trace the line tomorrow to look for damage.

Flashing is a transceiver problem. The transducer is either not sending a signal or its sending an invalid data. Either way, it's time order a new transducer.
