Lowrance HDS-5

I just bought a boat and it has a Lowrance HDS-5 already on it, I know they should be good for the price, however does anyone know what this system does other than chartplotting and fish finder? I read in the owners manual that it can read RPM's and fuel economy, it also led me to believe the system runs an engine diagnostics when it is running is this true?

The fuel flow requires an addtional fuel flow setup which will run you about $150 or so.

The engine interface only works motors that have a NMEA 2000 interface built into their on-board computors. Even if the motor is complainat, you'll still need to install a NMEA 2000 network on the boat to connect it to. You'll need to install a network for the fuel flow as well.
