Lower until help

Hello everyone, first post here! I have a 1996 Four Winns with the Ford 5.0 and the Volvo Penta SX outdrive (part number 3968156, 1.66) over the winter my lower unit didn't survive and needs to be replaced. I can't find a lower anywhere with the same part number but some that look the same and are a volvo penta sx... I just don't know what the differences are and if any would be compatible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You need a Volvo Penta SX-M drive in that ratio. Try Boatwrench.com for rebuilt units.

How did it fail over the winter?

Check ebay. They typically have many used and rebuilt units.

check ebay. the lower is the same for the SX-M's regardless of motor in front. the 1.66 is common

Thanks everyone! That will get me headed in the right direction. I didn't drain the foot oil and I must have had a bad seal that allowed water to get in during the summer months of using it, once it froze it cracked the case. Only thing I could come up with ..

Been looking at the SX-m and my part number doesn't match with any of them. Also is the ratio of 1.66 in the upper unit? And so any SX-m will work?
