Is there a such thing as a lower unit seal? I have a 2000 15hp Johnson and I discovered water in the lower unit when changing the oil. Are there any drawings, pictures, instructions, etc on how to replace this?

Re: Lower Unit Seal

ishopmarine.com has diagrams for your engine. You will need the model number. Since it appears that you will be working on your own engine you will want to get a shop manual for it. I don't care for Clymer's or Haynes but prefer an OEM manual. Welcome to iboats.

Re: Lower Unit Seal

Before ya go ripping things apart, dump the oil, and replace both drain and fill screw o-rings. Any boat store. If possible (maybe not with winter) run it and see if it comes out milky again. Lot of work and money involved in lower units if you don't know what your doing. On a 2000, off hand I would say the rear seal might be chewed up by fish line, so if still milky, replace that. Let me look for a diagram..

These is just a 2000 15 gearcase. You would need to make sure when ordering anything, you have the right Mod and Ser #'s. Gearcase seal kit for this is 0396350
