lower unit oil

I have always use 80 90 gear lube for lower units is that bad? I just filled my mercury 1980 50 hp serial 5796423 with it and filled how I should from the bottom and it didn't take much. how much I thought 13 ozs??

I'm sure that you had the Vent plug out while you were filling from the bottom. Did it run out the Vent plug to show you that it was full?
