Lower Unit Oil Change - Run First?

OK Guys. I'm planning on changing the lower unit gear oil in my 1989 Yamaha 90HP 2 stroke. I got to reading through some of the threads, and came across something that turned a light bulb on. (imagine that!). Anywho, should I run the motor prior to changing the oil to heat it up? Just kinda seems like a good idea in some ways, but at the same time I don't want lava pouring out either. What do you guys think?

PS - I was planning on doing this after she's sat for a few months over the winter. I love being in SC for our long 3 month winters!

dont run it first, by runing it you cant tell if its foamy due to air bubbles or water.
wont hurt anything to run it as its not gonna get hot on the muffs nor in the water.

Also, I imagine if you run it you are working the oil and moving to cover all the parts so when you change the oil your not getting as much of the old oil as you could out.
