Lower unit drian plugs.

I recently drained the lower unit on my 1984 90 HP Jonhson and noticed that the upper and lower gear case drains had O rings on the plugs. I checked with the manual and I don't recall them there as well. <br />I went to the local boat dealer and asked for O rings and he stated he thought that there were small gaskets in the upper and lower plugs and no O rings should be used.<br />Upon draining the lower unit the used lube looked good, no evidence of H20.<br />Do I replace the O rings or use the gaskets? If I am not mistaken the plugs that use the o rings are different than the ones that use the flat plastic gasket. I have used both with out experiencing any problems.<br /><br />Someone will come along and give us an experts point of view.
