Lower Unit Compatability

Will a 1979 Johnson 70hp 3cyl lower unit fit on my 1986 Johnson 70hp 3 cyl?
Already dropped mine on the 86 and is the four cog shaft....i have access to a 79 [four cog shaft] to replace mine but want to be sure.....would the shift shaft adjustment height and or rods be the same as well and shift orientation? Water pump same?...my prop bolt on?....etc.

It should work, no problem. Use the shift rod height of your 86 model.

Thanks for the heads up. Gonna put the 79 unit on [the 86 motor]... only diff i see is it has not got a built in anode [or any]...i am gonna install the horseshoe shaped type on the front...gonna also change the oil and put in a new impeller kit and i'll let ya know how it goes... used ebay unit-i painted her up and it looks new-seems to shift nicely...got my fingers crossed!
