I am hoping to take my virgin run in my new to me boat Wednesday or Thursday evening. Anyone going to be at Lake Clarke in case I have a problem?:(

I notice that there are a lot of boaters that use the lower Susquehanna, Lake Clarke, Coniwingo, and thought maybe have a thread would be nice.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Hey John!

We are planning on being out tomorrow night (Wednesday) as long as the weather holds out. Still have my fingers crossed on that one! Hoping to be out from around 5 until 9 or so.

If you post up a picture of your boat, I will keep an eye open for you. You can always hail us on the vhf as "Blue Crabber" we monitor 9 & 16 whenever on the water.

Good luck and I hope that your first trip goes well!

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Thanks BC. I will keep that in mind. I watched the weather last night and looks like I am going to wait until Thursday night.

I keep forgetting to take picture of boat. It is a dark blue and tan 19ft Wellcraft. Just listen for the loud screaming and cursing.:)

Re: Lower Susquehanna

I was out on Lake Clarke on Monday fishing. I wasn't planning on going out again until possibly the weekend. However Lake Clarke is the optimal place for your virgin run. Should be a fair amount of other boaters around if you need a tow plus if you stay upriver you won't be far from the 2 marinas or the yacht club. Take a cell phone with one or both of the marina phone numbers in it and they could probably help you in an emergency. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks. The guy that gave me the boat is going along to help me out. I plan on run up river incase anything happens. That way I can float back down.:)

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Hey John! Did you make it out last night or did you decide to wait for tonight? We went out last night and it was beautiful! Cloudy but still warm and the water was mostly flat!

Caught a couple 8" or so catfish and did some watersking, great time had by all. Kept an eye open for you but didn't see you.

You have got the right idea by going upstream so that you can float back down just in case. It will be nice having someone also familiar to boating and your boat along with you as well. Hope that you have a great time and that everything goes really well! Make sure you let us know!

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Hoping to head out tonight. I didn't get a chance to look at the weather yet.
I was hoping that it would be Matt(the guy that gave me the boat) but my daughters want to go along. They are 19 and soon to be 21. I will let them go with the understanding that this is a test run. I may have to make adjustments or run into problems. I don't want to hear...... I have to be at so and so's house at 9:00. This is my time with boat. NO WHINING!!!!!

Hope all goes well. If you don't get out I'd avoid the place on the weekend - not a place to trial - unless you get in and out real early. Navigating your trailer is the main thing as it's challenging with the way the ramps and parking lots are set-up plus add all the traffic. It can be nutz - but you prolly already know that. All just IMHO of course!

The one thing that I am comfortable with is backing the trailer. I am good with that. My concern is the running of the boat. It has been sitting for 4 or 5 years. I serviced everything but don't know what is going to happen when I hit the water.
I have been to Lake Clarke with my neighbor several times so I am familiar with it.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

What ramp do you plan on using to put in? I have always used Lock 2 (Last one) but there seems to be alot of potholes in the ramp this year. Maybe it was like that last year to and I just forgot about it.

Have you tried to run the motor in a tub or on the muffs yet? If you know that it will start fine on land, that is one less thing to worry about on the water. Also, you might want to start it up and warm it up in the driveway before you leave. (On the muffs of course!) This should make re-starting in the water at the ramp easier!

Good luck!

My dad and I caught some real nice cats on Monday evening. One of them was HUGE. But get this.....I somehow managed to forget my net at home AND leave my rag in the car. So we had to get quite up close and personal with all the fish we caught and got slime all over everything. I'm such a tard.

In case anyone's interested....this is the lure I have had the most consistent success with at Lake Clarke and Conowingo http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s...2500/92616chartb.jpg&type=0&linkEnabled=false

The white one specifically. I've caught tons of cats and bluegill and some nice bass with it. I just ordered a bunch more of them :)

If anyone wants a fishing buddy sometime please let me know. I'm only 20 mins from Lake Clarke and other than my dad occasionally I don't have too many friends who fish.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

We've used the last set of ramps and there is definitely a ledge/hole that drops off quite a bit, we keep the trailer tires from going over that but then it makes it tough to get her floating enough...our hull is pretty deep and she weighs a bit. Gotta use the ole quick-stop and slide launch! Thank God we have a very long tongue. Those ramps don't have much of an angle.

EZ I'll definitely try and hook up with ya sometime. Looks like we'll prolly have a full boat this weekend.

Yes, I have run it on muffs.

I am looking forward to fishing when I have everything ready.

I guess PA doesn't have a boat fishing license like other states?
