Lower shift cable kit question

I am in the process of replacing the lower shift cable on an alpha one gen 2 drive. In the cable kit, part no. 8M0176525, there are two plastic cable conduits - one about 3/4" long and the other is about 3-1/2" long. I believe my application uses the shorter part and it installs from inside the bilge.

What is the application for the longer part? A Bravo drive? I didn't see anything in the shop manual on this part in the shift cable section.

See what is in there now. You use the one that matches what's there. I haven't had to use the longer one on anything I've done. I wondered why one was longer myself over the years.

Being the insert is an odd one to figure out at times, your question reminded me that I created a sticky about 8 years ago for this question. Personally, I don’t ever recall, ever having to change the insert out or even messed with it during cable changes… But here’s how someone did it years back now… Time sure does flyby when looking back.
