Lower end holes

I have a 1987 Johnson 70 hp, there are two holes, one on each side of the foot. Not sure what they are, need some help. They are about 1” in diameter.

you may want to post a picture.

there should not be two 1" diameter holes

there will be a few small cavity drains and the water pickup as well as where the zinc sits

They looked like they were drilled in the housing to make noise.

Those holes would make it louder at full throttle.-----And obviously make the motor more powerful.

Like a fart can on a honda makes it faster....

My guess someone drilled holes to ruin a perfectly good drive

Scott, these are the holes I was talking about. Glad you found them. Years ago guys used to do this just to make them louder.
