I just picked up a 'new to me' boat a month or so ago. and finally put it in the water a couple weekends ago - the boat has been sitting in the water for a couple weeks, with a couple hours or so of use in the meantime... A few days in, the audible alarm sounds, I noticed the drive oil reservoir had dipped in level, so I topped the reservoir bottle and carried on. That Sunday night, we leaving the cabin to come back home for the workweek, and then back up there again this past weekend...
( Now, being a new to me boat, and its first run of the summer, and the previous owner changed the drive oils last fall, I hoped/wanted/wished it to be simply an air lock in the system, and the oil level would soon stabilize.. reading online that it the reservoir can drop in levels of almost its entire capacity..)
Well, after this past weekend, and noticing the reservoir oil level dropped again I finally pulled the boat out of the water to take a look.
Pulled the boat from the water, up onto the lot at the launch, and First glance at the leg I realized the immediate problem.
The drain lug in the leg has fallen out, and oil from the reservoir bottle has simply flown right through the bottom of the leg, out the drain hole.
Now the Question. (and I really don't want to hear the answer here, But I need to know the answer here).
Boat, sitting in water for a couple weeks, drain plug fallen out, reservoir oil bottle being topped up as needed. w minimal use of the boat over the past couple weekends....
How bad of a situation am I into? Next steps? Advise?
As said above, its now sitting on the trailer, at the cabin, a few hours drive away from me.
