I have a 2002 Mercury 135 Optimax outboard. Within the last year it has been fit with SmartCraft gauges. I've only had it about 2 months. I get a low oil alarm which means the remote oil tank is low and refill ASAP. Well the remote oil is full to the top. The reservoir oil tank attached to the engine is also filled. I have assumed that the oil feed is working properly and have used the boat about 20 hours. I have attempted to keep the Remote oil tank full. It has used a little less than 2 gallons. On the gauge the oil tank indicates about .4 of a gallon. I believe the max it gets is about .6. I have ohm checked the float and it swings from about 230 ohms (full) to 300 ohms (empty). I also have slightly less than 5 volts at the float. I believe wherever the float voltage drop is read must be broken or I have the wrong float for the SmartCraft gauges. Besides these two questions I have the following:
1. If I tell the smartcraft gauges that the tank is not installed will the engine still supply air pressure to the tank to force the oil up to the engine mounted reservoir?
2. I assume If this problem becomes critical I would get a low oil reservoir alarm? Is this true?
3. Where should I look for the blue and black wire from the remote tank float on the engine. Does it go into the computer module?
