I just purchased a 1996 Basscat with a 96 Mariner magnum efi. Yesterday I was fishing a tournament and was running wide open across the lake. An alarm went off and I immediately shut the boat down. Pulled the cowling off the motor and the oil tank on the motor was about half full. The main oil tank had plenty in it. I filled the one on the motor all the way up and restarted the boat and it ran fine the rest of the day. I've read a little bit about this plastic gear that is notorious for going out on these motors. My question is. Did I do any damage to the motor even though the oil tank on the motor was half full??? And how much of a pain in the ass is it to replace that plastic gear? I'm not even %100 sure it was the gear. Could it be anything else that would keep that tank from getting oil???

Oil gear does not fill tanks, it is filled by pressure from engine. Check that the oil/air line is not pinched at cowling and the oil tank caps are tight on tank in boat and O-rings in caps are intact....
